Exciting Times in Nags Head: A Celebration of Bike and Pedestrian Safety!

Nags Head, North Carolina is buzzing with excitement following the recent Watermelon Festival held on August 1, 2024, at Jockey’s Ridge Crossing. This fun-filled event drew a crowd of over 200 attendees and served a vibrant cause: promoting bicycle and pedestrian safety in the Outer Banks.

Big Bucks for a Great Cause!

With the combined efforts of Kitty Hawk Kites and the Outer Banks Bicycle & Pedestrian Safety Coalition, the festival raised an impressive $3,890. So, how did they do it? By creating a lively atmosphere full of watermelon-themed activities that brought the community together!

Among the exciting highlights, the festival featured the presence of the delightful North Carolina Watermelon Queen, Haylee Davis, who sprinkled a touch of royalty over the festivities. Attendees enjoyed watermelon arts & crafts, fun face painting by Lost Colony, and even a Food Lion tie-dye station. Who could resist a splash of color on a summer day, right?

Community Support Shines Bright

It’s not every day that you get to see a community come together for an important cause, and this event was a true testament to that spirit. A special $1,000 donation from Food Lion was highlighted, showcasing their commitment to the safety of cyclists and pedestrians in the region.

Kitty Hawk Kites and the Outer Banks Bicycle & Pedestrian Safety Coalition want to send out a big thank you to everyone who played a part in this event’s success. Special shoutouts go to Food Lion, Lost Colony, and the Outer Banks Women’s Club for their generous support. Initiatives like this make a real difference, and it’s heartwarming to see local businesses stepping up.
