In Dar County, residents and travelers can breathe a sigh of relief as Highway 12 remains open despite the looming presence of Tropical Storm Debby. The local Department of Transportation has reported that while there are sections of the highway with rainwater accumulating up to a few inches due to significant downpours, there has been no occurrence of ocean overwash so far.
The National Weather Service is projecting that the Outer Banks could receive up to three inches of rain as Debby moves through the area. To prepare for the storm’s impact, D.O.T. crews have been actively working to strengthen the dune line just north of Hatteras. Additionally, they have been clearing out drainage ditches to help manage water flow efficiently.
