Kitty Hawk Welcomes Theatre of Dare for Its 34th Season

Get ready for some laughs, Kitty Hawk! Theatre of Dare is all set to kick off its 34th season with a joyous celebration of family, love, and humor in the classic romantic comedy Social Security. This delightful play, penned by Andrew Bergman, is sure to tug at your heartstrings while keeping you rolling in the aisles.

A Glimpse into the Play

Taking us back to the *1980s*, Social Security follows the escapades of Barbara and Trudy, two sisters portrayed by the talented Leah Cribb and O’Anna Rose. They find themselves navigating the hilarious and sometimes touching world of family dynamics, particularly when their octogenarian mother, Sophie, played by Debbie Taylor, starts to show interest in love again. What kicks off as an ordinary scenario rapidly spirals into chaos, especially when Trudy and her husband Martin, played by Mike Mazza, leave Sophie in the care of Barbara and her art dealer husband, David, depicted by Eric Nicholds.

The laughter escalates with the entrance of the world-renowned 98-year-old artist Maurice Koenig, brought to life by Mike Campbell, who adds a twist of excitement to the family gatherings. Co-director Adara Huls promises audiences a blend of **hilarity and heartfelt moments**. She shares, “There are a lot of funny moments, but also some heartfelt moments as well. It’s one of those comedies that is both extremely humorous and somewhat touching.”

Mark Your Calendars

The shows are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on September 20, 21, 26, 27, and 28, with matinees being presented at 2 p.m. on September 22 and 29. All the action will unfold at the *Theatre of Dare*, located at 3848 N. Croatan Highway in Kitty Hawk. Tickets can be snagged online at theatreofdareobx.com or at the door (if they’re still available!). Just a friendly reminder: this play comes with a PG-13 rating, mostly due to mild profanity and innuendos, so plan accordingly!

A Season Full of Variety

Theatre of Dare is not stopping here! This season is packed with an eclectic lineup that has something for everyone. Following Social Security, look out for Misery, an adaptation of the chilling Stephen King thriller, coming in November. As the season progresses, don’t miss the punk rock musical Lizzie, which dives into the life of the infamous Lizzie Borden in February, and the romantic dramedy Significant Other in March. To wrap up the season, the ever-popular Dolly Parton musical 9 to 5 will take the stage in May!

For those seeking alternative performances, the second-stage shows will also provide a delightful mix. Enjoy a live radio production of Yes, Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus at *Dare Arts* in December, plus a quirky dramatic comedy, Now and Then, at the *Black Pelican* in January.

An Invitation to the Community

Evan Tillett, President of the Theatre of Dare Board, mentioned, “We’ve got a little something for everyone this season. We’ve been preparing for the new season for many months now, and we can’t wait to start it off with this comedic hit.”

So, mark your calendars, Kitty Hawk! With family-friendly entertainment and an array of offerings, it’s time to come support local talent while having a good laugh. The curtain is about to rise, and you won’t want to miss it!
