Summer National Empty the Shelters™ Event Set to Take Place from July 8-31

Welcoming Home New Furry Friends: A Nationwide Adoption Drive

The highly anticipated nationwide adoption event, the Summer National Empty the Shelters™, is prepared to open its doors from July 8 to July 31, 2024. Organized by the much-appreciated BISSELL Pet Foundation, the event is set to take place at over 390 organizations across four states. The drive is inviting people from all walks of life to give a second chance to furry friends in need.

This large-scale event has already played a significant role in helping around 253,000 pets find loving homes and is renowned as the country’s most extensive funded adoption affair. On average, approximately 1,225 pets find joyous abodes each day throughout these nationwide events.

Reduced Adoption Fees for Easier Process

As part of this monumental event, BISSELL Pet Foundation sponsors lower adoption costs enabling shelters to only charge $50 or even less to potential adopters. This aids in the swift transition of pets from dismal shelters to the welcoming couches of their new families. One such participating shelter this summer is the Outer Banks SPCA located in the vicinity of 389 other shelters throughout 44 states. Aspiring pet parents can get information about additional shelters by accessing BISSELL’s interactive map.

Making Space for All…

This event comes at a dire time when various animal shelters are facing an assortment of challenges from overcapacity to loss of air conditioning due to natural disasters such as extreme heat, wildfires, or tornadoes. In some unfortunate cases, overcrowding has led to the euthanasia of highly adoptable pets merely to free space.

Cathy Bissell, the Founder of the BISSELL Pet Foundation, cautions, “It is a critical time. Every single adoption during our upcoming Summer National Empty the Shelters event will be a life-saver, making room for another animal.” She encourages those who are unable to commit to full-time pet ownership to consider fostering as an alternative, as this also helps alleviate the pressures of overcrowding. Her plea to the public duly notes that many deserving pets across the country are counting on their support.

Conclusion

Every pet matters, and so does every act of kindness. The upcoming Summer National Empty the Shelters™ event is a platform for everyone to show that we care. Whether you are able to adopt, foster, donate, or even just spread the word, you are helping give these innocent lives a chance to experience the love and comfort they deserve.
