Bustin’ Crime in Buxton: A Look at Recent Property Crimes
Hey there, fellow Dare County residents! It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster month with crime in our community, specifically in lovely places like Buxton and Avon. The Dare County Sheriff’s Office has been busy investigating several property crimes, and we thought it would be helpful to fill you in on what’s been happening lately.
Breaking and Entering in Buxton
In the early days of September, we had a couple of serious incidents reported. On September 8th, while one unlucky resident was serving some time behind bars, two suspects decided to break into their camper located in the 48000 block of Quidley Lane. The good news? Thanks to a quick investigation, the suspects were identified and arrested. They were also found with some stolen goods that have since been recovered.
Just a day later, on September 10th, another break-in occurred in the 100 block of Etheridge Road on Roanoke Island, where a thief snatched up some medication from a residence. This incident is still under investigation, so keep an eye on your valuables, folks!
Unwanted Fires and Vehicle Break-Ins in Avon
September 11th was a particularly alarming day, as it marked an instance of arson on NC 12 Hwy in Avon. A building was intentionally set on fire, but luckily, this matter is still under investigation. Later that same day, a break-in occurred at a shed on Diamond Shoals Drive, where tools and personal items went missing. Fear not, though; authorities managed to identify the suspects and recover the stolen items!
Fast forward to September 17th, and we have more troubling news. A felonious restraint case was reported on Harbor Road, where a victim was taken against their will. Thankfully, they were later found safe in Manns Harbor, and charges are pending against the suspect.
Vehicle Break-Ins: A Growing Concern
Unfortunately, theft seems to be a rising trend in the area. Just a few days later on September 26th, two separate incidents of breaking and entering motor vehicles were reported. The first incident occurred in the 52000 block of NC 12 Hwy, where money was stolen from an unlocked vehicle. In the same week, something similar took place on Meekins Drive in Roanoke Island, where pepper spray went missing from yet another unlocked car.
While we’re at it, let’s mention a case of larceny that happened in good ol’ Roanoke Island. On September 9th, a tow dolly vanished from the 900 block of Woodley Ave, and this case is still being investigated.
Counterfeit Checks and More
What’s even more frustrating? Scammers are at it again! On September 9th, a fake check was written on a business account in the 100 block of First Colony Court on Roanoke Island, which is currently under investigation. And then on September 25th, another report came in regarding unauthorized transactions discovered on a business account on NC 12 Hwy in Avon. The bank is digging deeper into that one, so stay alert!
Community Safety
With all these incidents floating around, now is the time to be extra vigilant. Lock your doors, secure your belongings, and keep an eye out for anything suspicious. The Dare County Sheriff’s Office is working hard to keep our community safe, and you can help by being aware and reporting any unusual activities you spot.
