20-Year-Old Williamsburg Woman Dies in Outer Banks Vehicle-Pedestrian Accident

Williamsburg, VA – A heart-rending incident happened early Friday morning, involving a 20-year-old Williamsburg woman who was struck and killed by a Jeep on Outer Banks. This tragic event has sent shockwaves of sorrow throughout the community.

The Tragic Incident

The calamity occurred at 1:08 a.m. at U.S. 158 and Ocean Acres Drive, a busy intersection on the Outer Banks. According to reports, the young woman, named Ashley Elizabeth Williams, darted eastward onto the highway, allegedly rushing into the path of a 2021 Jeep Wrangler heading south on U.S. 158 in the outer lane.

The Kill Devil Hills Police Department, in a press release mentioned that Ashley Williams was not in a designated crosswalk at the time of the incident. Unfortunately, she was proclaimed dead at the scene. The accident was a terrible shock to everyone who knew her, leaving them pained and heartbroken.

No charges filed

Spearheading the investigation, Town Police Lt. Julie A. Haner stated that speed or alcohol did not appear to be contributing factors on the driver’s part. The driver, a 43-year-old woman from nearby Kill Devil Hills, has been fully cooperative throughout the investigation process. The officials have decided not to file any charges against her.

While the deeply saddened family is left to mourn their daughter’s untimely and tragic death, the community rallies in their support, further emphasizing the heavy loss they are bearing.

The Aftermath

As the entire Williamsburg community continues to grapple with Ashley’s sudden demise, her family members, friends, and those who knew her are trying to come to terms with the tragedy that unfolded on the vibrant Outer Banks intersection.

This incident sheds light on the critical importance of road safety, especially for pedestrians. It serves as a painful reminder to all road users that they must maintain extreme caution while on the move, whether driving or crossing the streets, irrespective of day and night.

In loving memory of Ashley Elizabeth Williams, her family insists on celebrating her life, cherishing her memories, and remembering the joy and light she brought into their lives, instead of focusing solely on the circumstances of her tragic departure.

Motorists and pedestrians alike are encouraged to always exercise extreme vigilance, especially in areas where pedestrian traffic intersects with busy roadways. This unfortunate incident reinforces the need for everyone to stay alert, follow traffic rules, and ensure one’s safety and the safety of others.
