As the summer winds down, families in Dare County are preparing for the start of the 2024-2025 school year. With this transition, school leaders are introducing a new student navigation platform called “Infinite Campus.” This system aims to improve communication and provide comprehensive resources for parents, students, and teachers.
The Dare County Schools are at the forefront of implementing Infinite Campus, following the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s transition to the system in fall 2023. Superintendent Steve Basnight expressed the importance of enhanced communication: “Our parents need to know what’s going on in our schools. They need to know what their children are doing, how they’re performing, and the classes they’re taking,” he stated.
Infinite Campus serves as a one-stop portal for all academic-related information. It features tools that allow parents to access their children’s academic records, including transcripts, right from home. Additionally, it facilitates significant academic planning and offers a financial component that enables parents to pay for various school-related fees, including prom tickets and field trips, directly through the platform.
This transition to Infinite Campus represents a crucial upgrade from the previous student information system, which had faced criticism from school officials. According to Holly King, the director of technology for Dare County Schools, previous systems lacked essential features that Infinite Campus now provides. She remarked, “It has been a breath of fresh air for Dare County Schools, as it fulfills a lot of the needs we have expressed to the state.”
The portal has already opened for new students, and families with current students can expect to receive information on how to access Infinite Campus within the week. This rollout is aimed at ensuring that all families are well informed about their children’s education and progress.
For families eager to navigate this new system, the school district plans to share additional details soon. The commitment to enhancing communication reflects a broader strategy to create a supportive environment for education within the community.
The implementation of Infinite Campus has generated enthusiasm among educators and parents alike. By having all necessary information in one place, the school district hopes to empower parents to take a more active role in their children’s education. Superintendent Basnight emphasized the importance of transparency and accessibility, stating that these efforts are part of the district’s ongoing commitment to improvement.
As Dare County Schools prepares for the upcoming academic year, the introduction of Infinite Campus stands as a confirmation of their dedication to fostering effective communication between schools and families. With the new school year just around the corner, both students and parents can look forward to a more interconnected educational experience.
