Curator Gaye Morris can’t hide her excitement for the upcoming season! “I am thrilled about the film society’s upcoming season, and I am very much looking forward to seeing our members from last year along with some new faces,” she shared. Her dedication to fostering a love for cinema shines through as she noted the mission to provide varied and adventurous programming.
Celebrities, Classics, and Community Events
But that’s not all! The film society will also partner with The Pioneer Theater to bring you a special celebration of National Silent Movie Day on Sunday, September 29 at 4 PM. Get ready for some good laughs as they screen the classic silent film **Steamboat Bill, Jr.**, starring the legendary Buster Keaton. This 1928 comedy tells the hilarious story of a young man working for his father, a struggling riverboat captain. Best of all, this event is **free for all Outer Banks Film Society members**. For everyone else, admission costs just **$5**.
Jessica Sands, the Executive Director of Dare Arts, has enthusiastic words about this collaboration. “We are so excited to collaborate with our friends and neighbors at The Pioneer Theater to host National Silent Movie Day in downtown Manteo,” she said. Silent Movie Day was created by film archivists in 2021 to celebrate the rich history of silent films, making this event even more special!

Whether you’re a member or thinking about becoming one, you’ll want to participate in the **27th Annual MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival** on Tuesday, October 1. Here’s your chance to channel your inner critic! Viewers will watch **10 short films** and choose their favorites for Best Film and Best Actor. This global event connects film lovers from over **500 venues** worldwide, so it’s an exciting way to be part of something big right here in Manteo!

You can choose between an **annual membership** for just **$140**, which includes **12 films** and special discounts for other events, or a **seasonal membership** for fall or winter that includes **six films per season**.
