Showers and Thunderstorms to Persist Through the Weekend

In a newly released update from the National Weather Service’s Newport/Morehead City office, residents of the Outer Banks are advised to prepare for showers and thunderstorms through the course of the upcoming weekend. As per the predictions, these areas could witness an additional three inches of rainfall.

Flash Floods in Poor Drainage Areas

The authorities have signaled the possibility of flash flooding, particularly in urban locales and areas with poor drainage abilities, which have been accepting incessant heavy rains in the past days. In anticipation of these likely conditions, a Flood Watch has been initiated for eastern North Carolina, barring certain parts of the Outer Banks extending from Oregon Inlet to Ocracoke Inlet.

High Risk of Rip Currents

The local weather office has drawn attention to the high risk of rip currents affecting all Outer Banks beaches commencing on Friday, July 12. This indicates that the surf zone presents a danger for swimmers across all levels of expertise. Accordingly, beachgoers are advised to avoid entering the water until further notice.
