Excitement is in the air in Nags Head, North Carolina, as the community prepares to welcome back the highly anticipated 8th Annual OBX Brewtag on Saturday, October 26. This unique event celebrates innovation and the creativity of flight, all while bringing together food, drinks, and good vibes right on the beautiful Outer Banks.
Every year, OBX Brewtag invites locals and visitors alike to enjoy a day filled with laughter, delicious bites, and, of course, great beers. But this isn’t just any ordinary festival! The motto for the day is “Kegs will fly!”, and that’s exactly what attendees can expect. James Kahle, the marketing director for Kitty Hawk Kites, a long-time sponsor of the event, explains that the Brewtag is about more than just having fun; it’s a way to pay homage to the fascinating history of flight in the Outer Banks.
Kahle remarks, “We want to get everyone together, really, to celebrate flight, the history of flight and the invention of the flexible wing, from Francis and Gertrude Rogallo.” The Rogallos were a remarkable couple who lived on the Outer Banks and created the flexible wing, which is the foundation for many wind sports we enjoy today, such as kiteboarding, parachuting, and hang gliding.
A highlight of the OBX Brewtag event is the thrilling competition featuring homemade flying machines. This year, twelve teams will unleash their inventions as they compete to see whose contraption can carry a 1/6 beer keg the farthest. These exciting launches will take place from a towering structure set at 20 feet in the air. You won’t want to miss the action as teams take to the skies with their creative designs!
Anticipation is building, as thousands of attendees are expected to flock to Nags Head for the festivities. The best part? Entry to the event is absolutely free! While enjoying the fun, guests can purchase food, drinks, and merchandise from a variety of vendors. Beer enthusiasts will be thrilled to know there will be 10 breweries showcasing a total of 26 beer varieties, ensuring there’s a brew for everyone.
And let’s not forget about the local food vendors who will be serving up delicious bites to complement all the beer tasting. It’s the perfect way to spend a day with family and friends, all while enjoying the stunning backdrop of the Outer Banks.
While the Brewtag is destined to be a fun-filled day, it’s also about giving back. All proceeds from the event will go towards the Rogallo Foundation. The foundation is dedicated to promoting the legacy of Francis and Gertrude Rogallo, with the ultimate aspiration of building a museum that honors their contributions to aviation and wind sports. So, by enjoying the festivities, attendees are also supporting a great cause!
The clock is ticking down to October 26, and if you love good food, fantastic brews, and exciting competitions, then make sure to mark your calendar. The OBX Brewtag isn’t just a festival; it’s a celebration of innovation, community, and the spirit of flight. Whether you’re coming from near or far, you won’t want to miss out on this unique event in Nags Head!
