Surfers competing at sunrise
In the picturesque setting of North Carolina’s Outer Banks, the WRV Outer Banks Pro presented by Pacifico kicked off with a thrilling display of surfing talent. The event features both men’s and women’s competitions in the Qualifying Series (QS) 1,000, drawing participants from around the globe.
The opening day consisted of the men’s Round of 104 and 96, showcasing moments of high-energy aerial maneuvers and powerful rides. As the tide rose, organizers decided to pause the competition after the Round of 96, leaving spectators buzzing for the upcoming Round of 64 bouts.
Caleb Crozier (USA) made a remarkable impression by securing his place in the Round of 64 with a nail-biting victory. In Heat 4 of Round 96, Crozier needed a score of 6.16 to advance and managed to pull off a stunning air reverse just in time, earning a score of 7.50. “I was just hoping for one last wave and it came through. I can’t wait to keep the momentum going,” Crozier commented, reflecting on his thrilling ride.
Another standout, Tex Mitchell (USA), also claimed his spot in the next round with a solid performance, achieving the day’s highest single-wave score of 7.50. After facing a tough exit in Virginia Beach, Mitchell was determined to make a statement and expressed his enthusiasm for the Outer Banks backdrop, saying, “The waves here are super fun!”
Hailing from Virginia Beach, Cose Stoyanoff (USA) established an early presence in the competition, wrapping up his heat with a total of 13.15 points. “Every wave felt like it was getting better. I’m looking forward to more heats and enjoying these fun waves,” Stoyanoff said.
Several other surfers also made their mark as they progressed to the Round of 64, including:
With the excitement building, event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. EDT, with hopes of resuming the action at 8:00 a.m. The women’s competition is also set to begin, promising an exhilarating extension to the events already underway.
The WRV Outer Banks Pro will continue through September 1, with live streaming available for those eager to catch all the surf action at WorldSurfLeague.com and the WSL YouTube channel.
