It’s a sunny day here in Kill Devil Hills, and there have been plenty of exciting happenings around town. From planning meetings to musical festivals, our community continues to thrive!
In the latest town meeting held, residents of Kill Devil Hills discussed new regulations aimed at managing the development of large homes. As the community becomes more popular with tourists and new residents, officials are stepping up efforts to ensure that these oversized houses don’t spoil the charm of our beautiful beach town.
The proposed regulations include height restrictions, bulk specifications, and design guidelines that should help maintain aesthetic harmony with the surrounding environment. This move is being welcomed by many locals who worry that if left unchecked, the construction of massive houses might lead to overcrowding and compromise the coastal beauty we all cherish.
Town officials are committed to encouraging responsible growth that protects our environment while also meeting the housing needs of residents and visitors. It’s an ongoing conversation, and community feedback is encouraged! So if you have thoughts on the matter, don’t hesitate to chime in.
As the election season heats up, we are getting to know the two candidates running for the District 3 Dare County Commissioner seat. It’s shaping up to be a thrilling race between House and Zaenger. Both candidates present differing visions for Dare County’s future, and residents are eager to learn more about their plans on issues such as local economy, beach preservation, and tourism management.
The election is just around the corner, so be sure to attend the upcoming forums to hear what these candidates have to say. Remember, your vote is your voice!
Speaking of exciting happenings, we’ve heard that manatees are stopping by our shores during their annual southern migration. These gentle giants are always a joy to see. Their appearance is a reminder of the rich marine life surrounding our beautiful beaches. If you’re lucky, grab your binoculars and head to the water for a chance to catch sight of them!
The Duck Jazz Festival is another highlight of the season. Musicians from all over adorned the stage, bringing vibrant melodies that filled the air. Attendees from various places enjoyed the rhythm and creativity on display. The festival not only provided entertainment but also reinforced the sense of community as everyone came together to celebrate music and artistry. It’s events like this that elevate the Outer Banks experience!
A big round of applause goes to Stacey Tillett, who was recently honored with the Dare County Teacher of Excellence Award! Stacey’s hard work and dedication to improving educational opportunities for our children have not gone unnoticed. It’s wonderful to see our educators receiving recognition for their passion and contributions to our community.
Last but certainly not least, let’s talk about our furry friends! This week’s featured pets from the OBX SPCA are Duke and Bellamy, a pair of five-year-old brothers looking for a loving forever home. Duke is a bit shy but has a warm heart, while Bellamy is Mr. Sociable who thrives on cuddles and attention. These brothers share a close bond and would love to stay together, bringing twice the love and joy to someone special.
If you’re interested in adding furry companions to your family, feel free to visit the OBX SPCA located at 378 Airport Road in Manteo. You can also reach out by calling 252-475-5620 or emailing their Kennel Manager to inquire about Duke and Bellamy or any other adoptable pets.
