Manns Harbor, NC: Remembering a Life Well-Lived

In the serene town of Manns Harbor, North Carolina, the community is coming together to remember a wonderful man, Donald Carlton Hux, Sr., who passed away peacefully on November 1, 2024, at the incredible age of 90. His impact on the lives of those around him will surely leave a lasting imprint.

A Legacy Born in Roanoke Rapids

Donald was born on October 28, 1934, in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, to the late Ollie Keeter Hux and Bernard Carlton Hux. Growing up in this vibrant town, he graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School in 1953. This graduation marked the beginning of an exciting journey—a career filled with hard work and dedication.

Work Ethic That Inspired Many

After school, Donald devoted himself to the International Paper Mill, which later became Champion International Corporation. His unwavering commitment was evident as he worked there for a remarkable 42 years. This was not just a job to him; it was a testament to his devotion to providing for his family. Many of his coworkers admired him for his reliable nature and strong work ethic. In the fast-paced world we live in today, it’s refreshing to remember such steadfastness.

A Family Man at Heart

At the heart of Donald’s life was his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Arline Gunn Hux, with whom he shared countless cherished moments. Their bond was a beautiful example of love and devotion that blossomed over the years. Together, they raised two wonderful sons: Donald C. Hux, Jr. from Stokes, NC, and William Lynwood Hux from Gaston, NC.

Donald’s legacy does not end there, as he was also a proud grandparent. His grandchildren: Michael Travis Hux, Tyler Carlton Hux, Tanner Kendrick Hux, William Hollan Wilkins, and Donald C. “Trey” Hux III will forever hold on to the memories spent with their grandfather. On top of that, he was cherished by his great-grandchildren—Ashlyn, Lawrence, Adalyn, Gunner, Tanner, Jr., Donald IV, and Ella. Each of them carries a piece of his heart and spirit, ensuring that his memory lives on.

Honoring His Wishes

In a move that reflects Donald’s humble nature, he requested that no services be held in his honor. Instead, the family is focusing on celebrating the remarkable life he led. They would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the incredible caregivers at Adoration, Sentara Albemarle, Currituck Health & Rehab, Peak Resources, and Amedysis Hospice. His family is thankful for all the compassion and support provided during his later years.

Those who had the privilege to know Donald will always remember him for his quiet strength and unwavering commitment to his family and work. His memory will bring warmth to those he left behind. In a world that often feels chaotic, Donald’s life is a reminder of the beauty of dedication, love, and legacy.
