His journey began on October 28, 1934, in Roanoke Rapids, NC, where he was born as the cherished son of the late Ollie Keeter Hux and Bernard Carlton Hux.
Donald graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School in 1953, setting in motion a remarkable career that would span over four decades. He was a hardworking and dedicated employee at the International Paper Mill—what would later become the Champion International Corporation—where he devoted 42 years of his life, retiring with a sense of pride and fulfillment.
At the core of Donald’s life was his family. He was the beloved husband of Arline Gunn Hux, and together they shared countless cherished memories over the years. His legacy lives on through his two sons, Donald C. Hux, Jr. of Stokes, NC, and William Lynwood Hux of Gaston, NC. Not to mention, he takes pride in his wonderful grandchildren: Michael Travis Hux, Tyler Carlton Hux, Tanner Kendrick Hux, William Hollan Wilkins, and Donald C. “Trey” Hux III. This family was a fundamental part of his existence, and he delighted in watching them grow.
The love didn’t stop there; Donald also leaves behind a band of energetic great-grandchildren: Ashlyn, Lawrence, Adalyn, Gunner, Tanner, Jr., Donald IV, and Ella. These delightful young ones are sure to carry forward the memory and teachings of their grandfather, making him proud with each milestone they achieve.
In a true reflection of his humble nature, Donald wished for no formal services upon his passing. Instead, the family considers the memories they hold dear and the love that surrounded him throughout his life as the most authentic way to honor him. Their heartfelt gratitude is extended to the caregivers from Adoration, Sentara Albemarle, Currituck Health & Rehab, Peak Resources, and Amedysis Hospice. They are recognized for their dedicated and compassionate care and support during his final days.
Donald Hux’s strength, his steadfast dedication to family, and his admirable work ethic will remain etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. The community of Manns Harbor, NC, stands united in remembering a man who exemplified quiet strength and an unwavering commitment to those he cherished.
