Janet was a native of Hatteras Island, born to the late Mack and Lucy Gray of Buxton. Known affectionately as “Miss Janet,” she dedicated over three decades of her life working at Planters/RBC Bank before retiring. Her career was impressive, but it was her commitment to her family and community that truly defined her life. After retirement, Janet spent her days nurturing relationships and actively participating in her local church, embodying the spirit of community and fellowship.
One of Janet’s greatest joys was cooking. Whether it was a family gathering, a church potluck, or just a simple meal for her loved ones, she always poured her heart into her dishes, which became a signature part of her identity. Her culinary delights will surely be missed, as they drew friends and family around the table, creating cherished memories filled with laughter and love.
Janet’s life was also marked by her enduring love for her husband, Eldon Gaskins. They were devoted to each other for an inspiring 67 years of marriage. Their love story is a testament to commitment and companionship, serving as an inspiration to everyone who knew them. Janet’s family often spoke of how her love and care extended not just to her husband, but to all who entered her life, making her a cherished matriarch.
Janet is survived by her three loving sons: Mike Gaskins and wife Marion, Steve Gaskins and wife Rachel, and David Gaskins and wife Renae. The family has flourished under Janet’s nurturing spirit, with eleven grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren who carry forward her legacy of love and caring. The bonds they’ve shared over the years will forever be a source of strength and support for them.
To honor Janet’s memory, her family will host a viewing and visitation on Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Lighthouse Assembly of God. This will be a time for friends and relatives to come together, share stories, and celebrate the impact she had on everyone’s lives. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 26, at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Rob Davis officiating. Afterwards, a private burial will occur at the Gray Family Cemetery in Buxton, a place where Janet will be remembered fondly.
The family of Janet Gray Gaskins expresses heartfelt gratitude to the community, friends, and neighbors for their unwavering support during this difficult time.
