Outer Banks Association of Realtors® Steps Up with $25,000 Donation for Hurricane Helene Relief

In a generous show of community spirit and support, the Outer Banks Association of Realtors® (OBAR) has donated a whopping $25,000 to aid those impacted by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina. With this significant amount, OBAR is set to make a real difference in the lives of those recovering from this natural disaster.

Dividing the Donation

The donation is being split right down the middle, with $12,500 going to the Western North Carolina Community Foundation and another $12,500 allocated to the NC REALTORS® Housing Foundation. This balanced approach ensures that immediate needs are met while also addressing long-term housing solutions for those displaced in the wake of the hurricane.

Providing Essential Aid

The funds are earmarked to help supply essential aid, including food, medical supplies, and various support services for the affected communities. As residents grapple with the aftermath of the storm, every bit of assistance counts, and these donations will help pave the way for recovery.

Tradition of Care

OBAR has a long-standing tradition of supporting local disaster relief initiatives. Since the 1990s, the organization has held numerous fundraisers to build a reserve at the Outer Banks Community Foundation dedicated to crisis times. This latest donation came from OBAR’s reserve fund, reflecting the board of directors’ commitment to providing prompt assistance to those who need it most.

Community Resilience

The OBAR President conveyed how vital it is for the community to come together during such trying times. The sentiment is clear: when disaster strikes, neighbors helping neighbors can make all the difference.

Additional Support from Outer Banks Community Foundation

Following in the spirit of giving, the Outer Banks Community Foundation (OBCF) has also reported disbursing over $56,000 in grants to bolster recovery efforts in Western North Carolina. Their Board of Directors has approved various grant awards funded through multiple charitable sources, highlighting the pressing need for immediate support following a disaster.

Grants Making a Difference

Some of the recipients of OBCF’s grants include reputable organizations like Samaritan’s Purse and Bounty and Soul in Black Mountain, which are critical players in disaster recovery. These grants come from a variety of funds, including the OBCF’s Disaster Recovery Fund and the Greater Outer Banks Fund, among others.

Channeling Donations for Recovery

Meanwhile, the North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF) is also calling for donations to its Disaster Relief Fund, aiming to assist with mid- to long-term recovery efforts in Western North Carolina. Since its inception back after Hurricane Fran in 1996, the NCCF Disaster Relief Fund has remarkably distributed about $5 million in grants to charitable organizations assisting communities in crisis.
