NWS Hurricane Preparedness Forums Arriving in The Outer Banks

Outer Banks, N.C – As hurricane season comes in full swing, the National Weather Service (NWS) is undertaking a series of public forums across coastal North Carolina to guide residents about hurricane preparedness. These forums will serve as a platform for NWS meteorologists to navigate community concerns about natural disasters and inform them about the potential impacts of tropical systems.

Meteorologists Discussing Everything About Hurricanes

Meteorologists from NWS will tackle complex subjects such as explaining what the hurricane track signifies, what varieties of impacts tropical systems can bring, and why it is critical to remain alert and prepared, even after the storm passes.

Public Sessions Scheduled in Dare County

Residents from Dare County will have the opportunity to attend three of these crucial Hurricane Preparedness Community Forums.

The first forum will take place on Thursday, June 27th at 6:00 PM at Jennette’s Pier on S Virginia Dare Trail in Nags Head. The second forum will be hosted by Avon Fire Department, located at Harbor Rd in Avon, on Tuesday, July 30th at 2:00 PM. Lastly, the Dare County Emergency Operations Center will welcome attendees for the third forum on Wednesday, July 31st at 10:00 AM, located at 370 Airport Road in Manteo.

Efforts Spearheaded by NWS Weather Forecast Office

The Hurricane Preparedness Community Forums initiative is organized by the NWS Weather Forecast Office in Newport/Morehead City, NC. The planned forums are a part of the office’s continuous efforts to promote hurricane preparedness and safety in vulnerable coastal communities.

Hurricane Preparedness Prioritized

In the light of recent natural disasters, advanced preparedness for hurricanes is a key defensive strategy for communities in the Outer Banks region. These forums aim to empower the public, ensuring that they are best prepared for hurricane season, aware of the potential risks and knowing how to respond to different scenarios.

Previous events have served to remind that unpredictable weather patterns and storms can bring not only high winds but also potential flooding, storm surges, and other related hazards. It is hoped that with accurate information and an informed community, the potential for loss — to both lives and property — can be greatly minimized.

Efforts like this, focusing on awareness and communities’ resilience, are essential in ensuring prosperity and safety in areas affected by hurricanes.
