Buxton, NC – The charming town of Buxton is buzzing with anticipation as we get ready for the annual Holiday Art and Craft Show hosted by the Hatteras Island Guild! This year, the event will take place on November 29 and 30, right after Thanksgiving, and it’s sure to be a fantastic way to kick off the holiday season.
Held at the Buxton Secondary School on Hwy 12, the show opens its doors from 10 AM to 3 PM. The event promises to be a delightful mix of artistry and community spirit. Keeper James and his partner Miz Linda will be returning to the show for another year. “Last year was just glorious! Not only did we sell plenty of books, but we also met so many incredible people,” shares Keeper James. “It’s those personal connections that make the event so special.”
Visiting this two-day extravaganza is like stepping into a magical world of creativity! You’ll find a variety of hand-made treasures that showcase the stunning inspiration drawn from the raw beauty of the Outer Banks. From vibrant paintings and cozy quilts to unique ceramics and delightful soaps, there’s truly something for everyone on your Christmas shopping list!
This event is much more than just shopping; it’s about supporting local talent and celebrating what makes Hatteras Island a unique place. The Hatteras Island Guild, originally rooted in medieval associations, continues to build that sense of community by bringing artists and craftspeople together for the shared goal of mutual support. “We are a guild in every sense of the word,” Keeper James emphasizes. “And I’m thrilled to be part of this group!”
For craft enthusiasts and art lovers, the variety on display this weekend will definitely not disappoint. Expect to find everything from stunning jewelry, beautifully crafted woodwork, intricate textiles, to delicious sea salt. Outer Banks This Week describes it perfectly, stating, “It’s a chance to get started on your Christmas shopping while supporting local artisans.”
Another exciting highlight of the show comes from Keeper James himself. He will be showcasing his latest work, “Shipwrecks of the Outer Banks: Dramatic Rescues and Fantastic Wrecks in the Graveyard of the Atlantic.” This captivating book tells the stories of the United States Life-Saving Service, an inspiring yet often overlooked part of American history. Over its 44-year run, this service bravely saved over 177,000 lives from peril at sea, operating only with small boats and sheer courage. As Keeper James puts it, “It’s a tribute to those heroes who risked their lives to save others.”
But that’s not all! He has a sequel on the way, titled “Shipwreck Rescues of the Outer Banks: Sensational Wrecks and Heroic Rescues by the United States Life-Saving Service.” Scheduled for release in April, this sequel promises to shed even more light on heroic tales from the coast, further connecting the community with its rich maritime history.
So gather your friends, grab a pot of coffee, and mark your calendars for what will surely be a delightful weekend filled with friendly faces and beautiful art. The Holiday Art and Craft Show is not just a shopping event – it’s a celebration of community, creativity, and tradition.
Don’t miss out on the chance to explore the local talents and maybe even meet Keeper James and Miz Linda in person! They’re looking forward to seeing everyone and sharing their stories. See you there!
