In a move that will surely bring relief to many residents, RoundTable Health Care has officially opened its doors in Barco, North Carolina. This new location, which began operations in August 2024, is set to help patients in the Outer Banks region, who often have to travel significant distances for durable medical equipment (DME). This expansion not only serves the Outer Banks, but it also aims to reach the growing populations in Chesapeake Bay and Virginia Beach, Va.
The need for readily accessible DME like oxygen, nebulizers, and CPAP machines has been pressing for quite some time, as highlighted by Joeli Olson, the Chief Operating Officer of RoundTable. “We discovered that obtaining DME in areas like the Outer Banks can be a real challenge,” Olson shared. “Patients often find themselves waiting several days in hospitals just to get the equipment they need to go home.” This wait not only adds stress for families but also strains the healthcare system, which ends up paying for additional hospital stays that could be avoided.
What happens is, the longer patients stay in the hospital waiting for their equipment, the more it costs the healthcare system. “It’s crazy to think that someone could wait days in the hospital for basic equipment like an oxygen tank,” Olson pointed out, emphasizing the importance of making DME more accessible.
RoundTable Health Care is no stranger to providing necessary medical equipment. It marks its third facility, partnering with its sister company, Mountaineer Home Medical, which operates in Morgantown, West Virginia and Cumberland, Maryland. As they prepare to celebrate 20 years in business this December, the company is geared towards respiratory needs, which is the backbone of its services.
Olson mentioned that their operations cover everything from oxygen supplies to complex ventilation systems, along with essential equipment like beds and wheelchairs. “We know our focus is on respiratory and related services, and we do that exceptionally well,” she said. This commitment to specialization is what sets RoundTable apart from larger national companies.
RoundTable Health Care prides itself on being a mom-and-pop provider that delivers personalized care. Olson noted that many patients have expressed dissatisfaction with larger, national companies, often highlighting the lack of service quality. “We saw this lack of care as an opportunity to bring our local, community-focused model to a wider demographic,” Olson said. “Yes, our service costs a little more, but we believe in doing it right. Our approach is about forming long-term relationships with our patients and ensuring they feel valued and cared for.”
As the community in Barco and the surrounding regions begin to experience this added healthcare convenience, RoundTable Health Care aims to keep its mission clear: to enhance patients’ lives through quality service and accessible medical equipment. With growing populations in nearby areas, this new establishment will likely be a crucial resource for many, marking a bright future for healthcare accessibility in the Outer Banks and beyond.
In a world where we sometimes feel lost in the shuffle, it’s comforting to see local companies like RoundTable Health Care stepping up to fill the gaps in our medical system. Their dedication to quality service, combined with a focus on the respiratory needs that so many have, ensures that help is just around the corner for those who need it most.
