Nags Head, a jewel in the Outer Banks, is buzzing with activity this November! From community service initiatives to festive celebrations, there’s a lot happening in our lovely town. Let’s dive into the latest and greatest happenings!
This week on the podcast, the Executive Director of the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau, Mr. Nettles, opened up a conversation about an intriguing concept called voluntourism. If you haven’t heard about it before, it’s when people travel to a destination and engage in volunteering while enjoying a vacation. How great is that?
Mr. Nettles emphasized the importance of giving back to our beautiful community, saying there’s an expectation that people need to do their part. Whether it’s helping with beach clean-ups or supporting local charities, every little bit counts! So, if you’re planning a trip to Nags Head, why not consider lending a hand while you’re here?
Speaking of giving back, it’s that time of the year again! Nominations are now being accepted for the Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards. This award honors the individuals who go above and beyond to support their communities through volunteer work. If you know someone who’s dedicated to making a difference, it’s the perfect moment to recognize their hard work!
The festive spirit is in full swing as the Elizabethan Gardens prepares to welcome visitors for its annual WinterLights event, set to open on November 22! This magical display promises enchanting lights and holiday cheer that will transform the gardens into a stunning winter wonderland. Lights will twinkle through the trees, and the spirit of the season will fill the air!
Runners and spectators, mark your calendars for the Outer Banks Half Marathon! Participants from all over will flock to Nags Head: from cheerful Californians to determined locals. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just there to cheer on your friends and family, this event promises a wonderful day filled with camaraderie and community spirit.
The season of joy is right around the corner, and that means it’s time for the beloved Holly Days event in Nags Head! Wilma Gladden from the All Saints Church is getting ready for the 20th annual Holly Days event. This tradition has brought smiles and laughter to families for two decades, and it’s a delightful opportunity to connect with friends, enjoy festive activities, and get started on holiday cheer!
In the spirit of giving, let’s not forget the furry friends looking for their forever homes! This week, we’re spotlighting Aria, a gorgeous one-and-a-half-year-old brown torby cat. Rescued from Kill Devil Hills, Aria is the sweetest girl you’ll ever meet, just bursting with affection and ready to snuggle! If you’re looking for a gentle companion, Aria might just be the purr-fect match for you.
She resides at the Outer Banks SPCA located at 378 Airport Road in Manteo. If you’re interested in adopting Aria or any of her fellow shelter pals, feel free to contact them at 252-475-5620 or email Leann Saunders at Leanns@obxspca.org. Let’s help give these animals the loving homes they deserve!
From volunteer opportunities to joyous celebrations and heartwarming adoption stories, November is shaping up to be a vibrant month in Nags Head. Don’t miss out on all the fun and community spirit. Get involved, spread the word, and let’s make this a November to remember!
