Exciting Developments in Nags Head and Dare County: Here’s What You Need to Know!

Nags Head is buzzing with some exciting developments that you won’t want to miss! Recently, a popular facility in Kill Devil Hills known as Spring Arbor has changed ownership, selling for nearly $11 million. But don’t worry, the management team that has been running this place will remain in their positions, ensuring that the quality and care we’ve come to appreciate will stay intact.

Economic Tidbits from Dare County

In other economic news, Dare County has seen a slight uptick in occupancy and meals revenue as of August 2024. This improvement puts the figures just ahead of where they were during the same time last year, providing a glimmer of hope for local businesses and residents alike. The tourism industry seems to be bouncing back, which is great for everyone who loves our beautiful shores and the wonderful services we offer.

Remembering Flint: A Tribute to a Wild Horse Legend

In a bittersweet turn of events, the Corolla Wild Horse Fund has announced the passing of the legendary wild horse, Flint. Flint was not just any horse; he was a symbol of strength and resilience in the wild horse community. For many who’ve visited Corolla and appreciated these magnificent creatures, Flint was a familiar and beloved sight. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who cherished him.

Collaborative Efforts for Long-Term Tourism Management

In a unique collaboration, the Dare County Tourism Board held a meeting on October 9 to discuss long-range tourism management strategies. During this meeting, members welcomed representatives from the Dare Community Housing Task Force. Donna Creef and Malcolm Fearing shared updates on their essential work, addressing pressing housing challenges that our community faces.

The Housing Task Force has been actively engaged since February, working to develop recommendations aimed at increasing housing diversity, which is one of the four strategic goals of the Long-Range Tourism Management Plan (LRTMP). It’s heartening to see such dedication to enhancing our residents’ quality of life while supporting our tourism sector.

Engaging with Our Residents

The committee is also in the planning stages of a Resident Engagement Plan. This plan includes hosting Tourism Town Halls where community members can voice their opinions and ideas about important topics related to the LRTMP. These town halls will serve as a platform for sharing key updates and gathering feedback, making sure that everyone’s voice is heard in the decision-making process.

Mark your calendars! The next committee meeting to discuss these initiatives will take place on Wednesday, November 20 at 9:00 AM, at the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau administrative offices on Roanoke Island. This is an excellent opportunity for community members to learn more and stay engaged about what’s happening in their local area.

Support Local and Community Initiatives

Local businesses are also stepping up to contribute positively to our community. Companies like Outer Banks Blue and Hilton Garden Inn Outer Banks/Kitty Hawk are currently taking measures to join The Outer Banks Promise, a pledge that emphasizes community stewardship and support. If you’re part of a local group or company interested in taking a step toward community involvement, consider reaching out to get involved. Every little contribution helps keep our community strong and vibrant!

As Dare County continues to grow and evolve, it’s encouraging to witness the community coming together to face challenges, celebrate successes, and honor the beloved aspects of our unique environment. Whether you are a local resident or a visitor, there’s always something new and exciting happening here in Nags Head, and we can’t wait to see where it all leads!
