Emergency Medical Professionals Invited to Northeast North Carolina EMS Educational Seminar

Nags Head, North Carolina – Emergency medical professionals are warmly invited to participate in the fourth annual two-day educational seminar titled “EMS at the OBX,” hosted by Dare County EMS in collaboration with the College of The Albemarle. This significant event is set to take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on October 7 and October 8, 2024, at Jennette’s Pier located at 7223 S. Virginia Dare Trail.

Enhancing Knowledge and Skills

The seminar aims to bring together EMS professionals from North Carolina and Virginia for a comprehensive learning experience, offering 14 hours of EMS Continuing Education Units (CEUs). According to Dare County EMS Director Chief Jennie Collins, “Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or just starting out in the field, this seminar provides the perfect opportunity to expand your knowledge, earn continuing education credits, and network with fellow EMS professionals.”

Informative Sessions and Workshops

Participants can look forward to engaging sessions led by industry experts, along with hands-on skills workshops that incorporate the latest advancements in EMS technology. Some of the notable educational sessions scheduled for the conference include:

  • “Different Not Less: Breaking Barriers,” presented by Brunswick County Emergency Medical Services Paramedic Bethany McGirt
  • “Saving Ourselves – The Strong & The Stressed,” led by PIERCE Education CEO Brad Lawson and Franklin County EMS Captain Justin Preddy
  • “To Ambulance or Not to Ambulance,” hosted by Cumberland County EMS Director David Grovdahl
  • “Jaws of Life: EMS Chronicles from the Outer Banks,” presented by Dare County EMS Deputy Chief Terence Sheehy
  • “How Much is that Doggie in the Window,” featuring collaborations from the Ocean City Fire Department and Mane & Taill Therapeutic Horsemanship Academy

Cutting-Edge Simulation Education

In addition to the regular conference agenda, attendees will have the opportunity to experience simulation-based healthcare education offered by East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine Healthcare Simulation Unit (HSU). This unique setup will allow participants to engage in hands-on scenarios from a fully equipped hospital resuscitation bay and an ambulance compartment.

Post-Conference Training Sessions

Following the main conference days, additional training sessions will be available on October 9 and October 10, 2024, at the College of The Albemarle’s Dare County campus. These post-conference workshops will cover topics such as Mental Health First Aid for Fire and EMS and Tactical EMS Officer II.
