Four Elizabeth City Men Apprehended in Nags Head

Four young men from Elizabeth City were arrested this past Tuesday in Nags Head, sparking intense local discussion about crime rates and law enforcement efforts in the area.

Details of the Arrest

The Dare County Sheriff’s Office and Nags Head Police Department were conducting a routine traffic stop on the evening of April 9, 2024. The incident took place near Sonic in Nags Head, where the authorities flagged down a vehicle due to a registration violation at around 5:28 p.m.

During the course of the traffic stop, law enforcement officers discovered three handguns and a quantity of marijuana. One of the seized handguns had been illegally converted to a fully automatic weapon.

Charges Laid and Arrests Made

The following individuals were arrested and charged:

• Jaques Lee Barcliff, 18, was charged with felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction and was held on a $60,000 secured bond.
• Mykele Lavon Roberts, 21, faced the same charge and received a $75,000 secured bond.
• Sayqwan Kylik Jones, 22, received multiple charges, including felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction, possession of a firearm by a felon, and resisting, delaying, and obstructing an officer. He was held on a $152,000 secured bond.
• Anthony Curtis Coley, 20, was charged with felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction, misdemeanor carry concealed weapon, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana and held on a $64,000 secured bond.

Jones, who is 22 years old, faces the most severe bundle of charges among the group. These include felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction, possession of a firearm by a felon, and resisting, delaying, and obstructing an officer. His secured bond is set at $152,000.

Anthony Curtis Coley

Coley is the youngest in the group, at just 20 years of age. In addition to a charge of possession of a weapon of mass destruction, he also faces a charge for carrying a concealed weapon and one for marijuana possession. He was held on a $64,000 secured bond.
