East Carolina Pirates Enhance Football Program with 19 New Signings for 2025 Recruiting Class

East Carolina Announces Signing of 19 Players for 2025 Recruiting Class

Greenville, NC – On Wednesday, East Carolina University made a significant move in strengthening its football program by announcing the signing of 19 new players to its 2025 recruiting class on National Signing Day. The signing marks a crucial step for the Pirates under their new head coach, Blake Harrell, who previously served as the defensive coordinator and played a pivotal role in recruiting many of the players.

Signing Overview

Harrell expressed his enthusiasm for the new recruits, emphasizing their potential to bolster the team’s future. “I’m fired up about the young men we added to our program today. Signing Day has changed over the years, and it was moved earlier this year to the first Wednesday in December,” he mentioned. This change has added a unique dynamic to the recruiting process, as some players are still competing in state championships.

Player Profiles

The class features 19 three-star recruits, including two late additions: Havelock wide receiver Johnny Williams and cornerback Derrion Horsley. All newcomers are high school prospects, with the class currently ranked 70th nationally and third in The American conference.

Among the recruits, Chaston from Lake Travis High School in Texas stands out as a dual-threat quarterback who amassed impressive stats this year with 27 touchdown passes and 16 rushing touchdowns. “He fits our offense perfectly,” said Harrell.

Eddie Love, a running back from Niceville High School in Florida, joins the Pirates with significant speed and the ability to make explosive plays. Harrell noted his track background, mentioning he has clocked a 10.6 second 100-meter dash, showcasing his athletic prowess.

Additionally, local talent Jonathan Stokes from Randleman High School strengthens the offensive line, while Kendall Walton from South Carolina also adds size and versatility to the unit.

Local Commitments

Johnny Williams, a local standout, initially decommitted but returned to the Pirates after the recent coaching announcements, highlighting the strong local connections the team is building. Harrell described him as a “dynamic player” capable of making significant impacts on both offense and defense.

Defensive Recruits

Many new recruits are focused on defensive roles as well. DJ Speer from Columbia High School in Atlanta is expected to play safety, bringing good length and athletic ability. Bernard, who has ties to the university through family connections, will also join the defensive back unit.

Harrell emphasized the importance of seeing these players live during games and camps to assess their capabilities accurately. “We strive for players that fit our needs both athletically and as members of our locker room,” he clarified.

Conclusion

The East Carolina Pirates are poised for an exciting future with their new recruits. As they prepare for the upcoming season, the commitment of these young athletes showcases the team’s promising direction under Coach Harrell’s leadership. The tough recruiting landscape was navigated effectively, ensuring a solid foundation for years to come.
