Get ready, Nags Head! The stage is set for a fantastic evening as First Flight High School’s chorus director, John Buford, invites cancer survivors to join in a special concert that promises to warm hearts and uplift spirits. On October 22, the David E. Oaksmith Auditorium will transform into a sanctuary of music, hope, and togetherness for an event dubbed “Harmonies of Hope.”
After a challenging year-long battle with cancer, Buford is thrilled to be back in the spotlight. “After our time apart, the students and I agreed that our October concert needed to be something truly meaningful,” he shared with enthusiasm. “We wanted to musically celebrate life and all its beauty.” And what better way to do that than through music?
The concert’s theme, “Harmonies of Hope,” centers around celebrating life, strength, and resilience in the face of adversity. Buford hopes to not only express his gratitude for surviving cancer but also to honor others in the community who have faced similar battles. “It’s a way to express gratitude and hope, both for myself and for the many other cancer survivors in our community,” he explained warmly.
The music will be a vibrant mixture of songs that reflect themes of survival, showcasing the beauty, strength, happiness, hope, and love that life has to offer. This is about more than just performing; it’s about creating a community and offering inspiration to everyone in attendance.
As a token of appreciation, special gifts will be presented to the cancer survivors attending the concert. And for those who want to socialize and share their stories, a delightful reception will be hosted by the Manteo and First Flight Lions Clubs right after the concert. What a lovely way to connect with others and celebrate victories, big and small!
The concert kicks off at 6 PM on October 22 at First Flight High School. Joining Buford on stage will be choristers from both First Flight High and Middle Schools, adding youthful energy and talent to this special gathering. Get ready to be serenaded by voices that carry messages of hope and celebration!
These tough times have highlighted the importance of community, love, and resilience, and what better way to honor that bond than through a heartwarming concert? John Buford’s journey serves as a powerful reminder to us all about the strength we possess and the beauty of life, even amid challenges.
So, mark your calendars for October 22, and prepare to immerse yourself in an evening filled with love, support, and poignant melodies. As Buford movingly stated, “I’m incredibly grateful for the support I received from my school, community, and the medical community during my treatment. This concert is a way to show my appreciation and to bring people together.”
Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of something truly special in our community. Join in the celebration of life as we gather to uplift and inspire one another through the magic of music. See you there!
