Buxton Traffic Stop Leads to Methamphetamine Arrest

In a recent law enforcement operation in Buxton, North Carolina, a local man was apprehended for possession of an illicit substance, bringing the issue of drug trafficking and its subsequent problems into sharp perspective. On May 23, 2024, a traffic stop resulted in the discovery of a sizeable amount of methamphetamine, leading to an arrest and charges.

While conducting a routine traffic stop on Hwy 12 near Nace Jennette Rd, Dare County Sheriff’s Office found adequate cause to search the subject’s vehicle. During the vehicle search, officers discovered methamphetamine and related drug paraphernalia, which were promptly seized. The person identified as Michael Ayward Godbey, aged 51, from Frisco was taken into custody following the discovery.

Post-arrest, Godbey was charged with (F) Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance— in this case, methamphetamine— and (M) Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. As per the local law enforcement, the methamphetamine found in Godbey’s car falls under North Carolina’s Schedule II Controlled Substances due to the severe potential for abuse and dependency.

The charges also encompass possession of drug paraphernalia, which pertains to any tool or equipment used in conjunction with illicit substances. After being charged, Godbey was handed a $6,000 secured bond.
