Hey there, lighthouse lovers! If you’re planning a visit to the beautiful Bodie Island Lighthouse located in the Outer Banks, we have an important update for you. Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 18, 2024, the lighthouse will be closed for climbing. It’s a bummer for those who love to ascend the tower and take in that stunning view from the top, but we have good news too!
Even though climbing to the top of the lighthouse will be off-limits for the day, the surrounding grounds and the Park Store will remain open for your enjoyment! So, if you happen to be in the area, you can still stroll around the grounds, take some pictures, or grab a souvenir from the Park Store. There’s always something delightful about spending a bit of time near the lighthouse, even if you can’t go up this time.
We’re excited to share that the lighthouse will reopen for climbing on Thursday, September 19. So if you’re one of those adventurers who wants to reach the top, mark your calendar! You’ll be able to experience the breathtaking views that the Bodie Island Lighthouse has to offer. The sweeping vistas of the coastal landscape are definitely worth the wait!
While you’re planning your visit around the lighthouse schedule, did you know that there are even more exciting events happening in the Outer Banks? One of the highlights coming up soon is the celebration of a special milestone – the CYP (that’s the Community Youth Program) will be celebrating its 30th birthday next week! It’s a fantastic initiative that has been supporting our community’s youth for three decades, and there’s bound to be a fun celebration to mark the occasion.
Also, if you’re a fan of flying and model airplanes, you might want to check out the Dare County Radio Control Flyers. They are preparing to host the Outer Banks Festival of Model Aviation shortly. It’ll be a great chance to see some amazing aerial displays and maybe even try your hand at flying a model yourself! Events like these bring the community together and are often filled with laughter and excitement!
So, as you plan your visit to the Bodie Island Lighthouse, don’t forget to note the climbing closure on September 18. While it’s not the best news for those looking to enjoy the view from above, it leaves plenty of time to enjoy everything else the Outer Banks has to offer. From the serene grounds around the lighthouse to the vibrant local events, there’s never a dull moment in this fantastic area.
Don’t forget to subscribe to get the top stories from the Outer Banks delivered right to your inbox each morning. It’s a great way to stay in the loop on what’s happening in our beloved coastal community!
Here’s hoping for beautiful weather and lots of happy memories ahead, whether you’re climbing that lighthouse or enjoying festivities in the area!
