Sponsor Our ArticlesIn an act of community support, Powell’s Point Baptist Church in Powell’s Point, North Carolina, has announced plans to host a benefit concert for local resident, Denise Marriner. The event, which features the musical talents of the Outer Banks Gospel Bluegrass Band, aims to raise funds to assist Marriner, who requires a critical lung transplant.
The concert is scheduled for April 6, 2024, and will commence at 6:00 p.m. Though there is no set admission fee, attendees will have the opportunity to contribute donations during the event. The church, located at 8387 Caratoke Highway, encourages everyone to join this worthy cause. According to the organizers, a fellowship gathering with desserts will follow the concert, providing an opportunity for attendees to socialize.
Those unable to attend the benefit concert can still make a contribution to the Denise Marriner medical fund by mailing their donations to Powell’s Point Baptist Church, PO Box 328, Powell’s Point, NC 27966.
Infusing a love for God with a passion for music, the Outer Banks Gospel Bluegrass Band has a distinguished track record of performing across the Outer Banks and throughout the northeastern region of North Carolina. The group, characterized by its acoustic bluegrass flavor, comprises seasoned professionals from diverse backgrounds.
The band’s members include Will Fields, a retired Coast Guard officer with over six decades of singing experience in country, gospel, and bluegrass genres, Sammy Mariner, a singer-songwriter from Point Harbor with a nationwide performance history, and Kevin Stroud, known for his exceptional banjo playing skills. Ken Mann, a former PBS TV program host, complements the band with his bass playing and storytelling abilities.
Despite its love for music, the band places the sharing of the Gospel of Jesus as its foremost priority. This has been echoed in their recent contributions to the popular album “Dare Challenge” – a faith-based project aimed to raise awareness and financial support for drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
The Outer Banks Gospel Bluegrass Band’s performance promises a blend of familiar hymns and inspiring stories that carry a message of hope, resilience, and faith.
Events like these solidify the sense of community in Powell’s Point and highlight the important role of faith and unity during challenging times. Church-goers and locals will certainly look forward to this benefit concert, not just as an evening filled with soulful music, but also as a chance to actively support a fellow community member in need.
The love and support shown by the church, the band, and the community as a whole, reassert the power of unity in overcoming adversity. It is hoped that this event may serve as a beacon of hope for Denise Marriner, and may inspire other communities to rally around their members in times of need.
