Scot, a 12.3-foot long, 1,644-pound adult male, has been tagged by a nonprofit research organization aimed at studying and conserving these fascinating creatures.

According to the latest updates, Scot was tracked and last pinged at 10:56 p.m. on Friday, July 12. He first made his presence known in the area around 10:30 a.m. that same day. He surfaced multiple times throughout the day, leaving many ocean watchers feeling pretty excited! What adds to the intrigue is that this isn’t Scot’s first visit to North Carolina waters. He last graced us with his presence back on November 25, 2023, when he was spotted southeast of Southport. It seems like he enjoys our coastal waters!
Where Did Scot Come From?

This incredible shark has been under watchful eyes since September 8, 2021, when he was tagged off Ironbound Island, Nova Scotia. His travels have been quite the adventure, zigzagging up and down the eastern seaboard of North America. He even dipped into the Gulf of Mexico a couple of times in 2022 and 2023, between the sunny spots of Florida and Cuba.

He was actually the first great white sampled during 2021’s Expedition Nova Scotia, making him a notable addition to OCEARCH’s research portfolio. In fact, he was the 74th shark tagged by the group in the northwest Atlantic Ocean, and what’s even cooler is that he received his name from SeaWorld’s partners as a nod to the wonderful people of Nova Scotia.
