Surfing Competition Excitement

Excitement Unleashed at the WRV Outer Banks Pro

This past Saturday, the charming city of Kill Devil Hills in North Carolina played host to an electrifying showdown on the waves at the World Surf League (WSL) WRV Outer Banks Pro. With beautiful weather and exciting surf conditions, the air was thick with anticipation as two local surfers claimed victory in a thrilling finish for the East Coast leg of the tournament.

Lanea Mons Shines with Maiden Win

At just 15 years old, Lanea Mons from Florida made waves—literally—by snagging her first-ever QS victory in the women’s division. This talented young surfer truly made her mark on one of her favorite North American stops. Starting out strong, Mons needed only one wave to make an impression. With her stunning first ride scoring an impressive 8.25, she quickly showcased her skills by finishing with a heat total of 15.15.

After advancing through the Quarterfinals and Semifinals with grace, it was only natural that she’d make it to the Final. Competitors included last year’s champion, Sanoa Dempfle-Olin, along with rising stars Eden Walla and Kylie Pulcini. Even though there was intense competition, Mons kept her cool and remembered to breathe, saying “I feel amazing, it’s always been a dream of mine to win this contest because I love the Outer Banks so much.” She certainly did not disappoint. As the waves served her a perfect opportunity for a final score, she posted a 7.33, solidifying her lead with finesse.

Owen Moss Rips Through the Men’s Division

Meanwhile, the men’s division was war as well! Owen Moss, also from the USA, capitalized on his home ground, earning his second QS victory with determination and flair. Starting the Finals Day strong, he quickly racked up a notable 12.83, putting his fellow competitors on the defensive from the outset.

The heat was packed with other ocean warriors, including previous QS champions like Kei Kobayashi and Wheeler Hasburgh, with Lucas Owston also vying for the top spot. The energy surged as the heats progressed. Moss overcame challenges and snatched back control just when it seemed like Owston was about to take the lead with an impressive 8.10. With a confidence boost from an excellent wave, Moss rallied with a 7.33 that pushed him ahead once more. “I’m so stoked right now and just so grateful to get a win here in North Carolina,” Moss exclaimed, thanking his supporters for their encouragement throughout the event.

Strong Performances from Runner-Ups

Even though Dempfle-Olin and Owston didn’t claim the top spot, their performances spoke volumes about their capabilities. Dempfle-Olin showcased her skills in the Semifinals before facing off with Mons. Ultimately, she finished with a score of 12.97, demonstrating remarkable perseverance while taking the runner-up title. “I wanted the win again, but getting a runner-up feels good. I’m super happy for Lanea since she lives over here and she was surfing so good,” she said graciously.

Owston, on the other hand, is proving to be a rising star on the competitive scene. With a strong finish of 13.33, he showed us that he’s not backing down anytime soon as a competitive threat. “I’ve been working really hard, and to see results is great,” he shared, reflecting on his journey and striving for more success in the coming events.

What’s Next for North America’s Surge?

The anticipation doesn’t stop here. The next QS event, the Nissan Super Girl Surf Pro, is just around the corner, kicking off from September 20 to 22 in Oceanside, California. With so many strong competitors coming off a thrilling Outer Banks Pro, we can only expect that upcoming event to be another jaw-dropping spectacle! Everyone’s eyes will surely be glued to the waves as these passionate surfers continue to chase their dreams.

In conclusion, the WRV Outer Banks Pro was not only a showcase of surfing talent but also a celebration of community spirit and young dreams coming to life amidst the Atlantic waves. Congratulations to all the surfers who participated! We can’t wait to see what’s next.
