Mark your calendars for a celebration of visual and performing arts at the 12th Annual Rock The Cape, unfolding on Hatteras Island on June 6 and 7, 2024. The family-friendly, free, community-wide event will feature an art show, concert, and gallery tour, providing an immersive overview of the artistic talent locals and visitors alike can expect on the Island.
Launching the event on Thursday, June 6, an art show will take place from 2 pm to 7 pm at Kitty Hawk Kites’ Waves Village Resort in Rodanthe. The event will witness artists interested in selling their unique and original handmade crafts and artwork. The application for prospective sellers can be found online, with a deadline of Friday, April 12.
What better way to celebrate the arts than with music. This concert promises attendees a vast journey into various musical genres. Talented local musicians will kick start the show with a Hatteras musician family jam followed by the Nova Scotian duo Cassie and Maggie, who offer a unique fusion of traditional and contemporary Celtic music. The finale will be a heady mix of pop, funk and soul tunes performed by Night Routine.
Tomas Houser, Night Routine’s guitarist said, “Formed in Denver, Colorado, Night Routine is the newest band to call the Outer Banks their home. We honed our unique sound through live performances and studio sessions before releasing our debut album ‘Late for Supper‘ in September of 2023. Please join us for what will be our debut welcome party to the area! We can’t wait to sing, dance, and rock with you!”
The excitement continues to the next day with Rock The Cape hosting the Friday Arts on the Island, a comprehensive, all-day, self-guided tour of the Island’s galleries. The event will see participating galleries conduct artist’s demonstrations, organize music and food sessions, and offer sales on their creations. A detailed schedule of participating galleries and their respective events is anticipated to be released soon.
Rock The Cape commenced in 2012 as an initiative to celebrate the powerful community of artists, galleries, and supporters on Hatteras Island. Interested companies that wish to sponsor the event should contact Dare Arts Executive Director Jessica Sands. The Outer Banks Visitors Bureau generously sponsors the project, and Kitty Hawk Kites is co-hosting the event this year.

Rock The Cape proves to be an excellent platform for attendees to immerse themselves in the artistic sphere, engage with local artists, and take home a piece of the Outer Banks artistic heritage.
